I had every intention of posting once a week on here, as you can tell I haven't. What I was trying to do was get a couple of my projects done and show them to you. Well all I can say is I have been lazy. The whole truth is I just haven't felt like being in my sewing room. I have a problem, I can't work if my room isn't orderly. So before I work on a project I need to organize and clean-up from what ever I was working on earlier. I just don't feel like I can get any work done if it isn't in some kind of order. As you may well of guessed I am a perfectionist. That in its self can be a blessing or a curse.
The last project was with my niece, who made a fleece blanket for herself, she is new to sewing so in some respect it was a lesson. With my sewing room being as small as it is, and me having as much stuff as I do, it's very easy to make a mess.
What I decided to do is show some of the gifts I made recently. I have been doing a lot of crocheting lately. So I made a few gifts. I have also been working on Christmas presents and things to sell. My friend and I are signed up for a Craft Fair in October. If I don't get busy I will not have enough stuff to sell. That's not a good thing, I have had several months to prepare for this. ugh!!!
I have to share a cute story about my niece. I found out from her Mother that she was interested in learning a few skills from me. One was sewing and the other crochet, so for her 18th birthday my husband and I got her a "Taught myself to Crochet" kit. It came with a book and hooks and other supplies. After she opened her gift, of course she wanted to be shown what to do. My friend and I showed her the ropes and she kept at it long after I had left. One day my niece went to Walmart shopping with my daughter and I was told that she walked around the store crocheting. She had her skein of yarn in her jacket and crocheted as she walked. Can't you just picture that in your minds eye? Too funny! So after hearing this I decided to make her a bag and hook case, no more skein in jacket...lol I gave her the bag and case at her graduation party. Her favorite color is red and she loves cats. I designed a cat applique to attach to the front of the bag and lined the bag and case with a cat print. I love the fact that she is excited about creating things like I am. To me there is no greater feeling then to see something made from nothing! No matter what it is, a skein of yarn turned into a purse or a yard of material turned into an article of clothing.
When I started sewing at the age of 12, I made clothing for myself non-stop. My grandmother taught me to sew and I never stopped. The first thing I ever made was a tunic and a pair of pants. That's right no hot pad or place mat, an actual outfit. I love my grandmother very much and miss her dearly and I thank her from the bottom of my heart for teaching me to sew. As I said above I made clothing almost non-stop. I made everything from skirts to prom dresses. I even made my wedding gown and veil. I have made everything from 3 piece suits to draperies. I also have dabbled in almost every craft known to man. What can I say, I'm a crafting fool!!!
